Restaurants - Where to eat around Shekou (and where not to!)

There are many restaurants all over Shekou that will cater to just about any taste and any budget. Please note that any evaluations and ratings given here, unless stated, are from my own personal experiences at the locations and are intended to be a guide only. Just because I had a good (or bad) meal doesn't mean that you will!!!

1. 2nd Floor Times Plaza

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese style food.
Comments: Traditional Chinese food and reasonably priced. Can be very popular with the Chinese, get there early to avoid a wait
Score: 7/10

2. George & Dragon

Venue Type: English Theme Bar & Restaurant
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: If you ever get a chance to try their roast pig special, don’t miss it!
Score: 8/10

3. Tai Zai Hotel Restaurant

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese style food.
Comments: Surprisingly small sized portions, as well as being a little expensive for what it is.
Score: 6/10

4. McCawleys

Venue Type: Irish Theme Bar & Restaurant
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: Live music on the 2nd floor well worth going to see.
Score: 6/10

5. Beijing Restaurant

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese style food.
Comments: Traditional Chinese food and cheap. Can be very popular with the Chinese, get there early to avoid a wait

6. The Boathouse

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: Good range of food all freshly prepared. A little on the pricey side but worth a visit.
Score: 7/10

7. Senor Frogs

Western Style Bar
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: HUGE portions of superb tasting food done on the BBQ, at a good price. Popular all week round as the watering hole for westerners. Very friendly and all welcome.
Score: 9/10

Comments: Traditional Chinese food and cheap, also does Dimsum early and late each day. Can be very popular with the Chinese, get there early to avoid a wait

9. The Spicy Fish

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese style food.
Comments: May sound strange with the name, but the best place in Shekou for Beijing Duck. Good range of other Chinese dishes at reasonable prices. Can get busy so book or get there early, but only go in the evening for the duck as it’s not as good at lunchtime (chief cook not there???)

10. Gold Coast

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: Had some of the best food I have ever eaten here, as well as some of the worst!
Score: 9/10 or 4/10 (depending if you get a good or bad day)

11. Gypsys

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Western style food.
Comments: Expensive. Generally good food, last time ate there though the bread roll on the hot beef sandwich was so old and stale could not cut it or even stab into it and the Chicken Caesar salad was atrocious!
Score: 8/10 or 4/10 (depending if you get a good or bad day)

12. Guizhou Copper Pot Beef

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese style Hot-Pot food.
Comments: Tough gristle beef, expensive for what it is.
Score: 3/10

13. Raindrops Cafe

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Chinese / Hong Kong food.
Comments: Good selection of good tasting food at good prices. Seems more popular through the day than the evening.
Score: 7/10

14. Latina

Venue Type: Restaurant
Food Type: Brazilian BBQ.
Comments: Excellent range of meats etc available as part of the all-you-can-eat buffet, although a little on the pricey side if anyone has a small appetite.
Score: 7/10

15. Tsui Wha Restaurant

Food Type: Hong Kong food.
Comments: Good selection of good tasting food at good prices.
Score: 7/10
